EDUCATION & TRAINING:
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate, a National Certified Counselor, and
member of the American Counseling Association. Before stepping into clinical work in 2024, I
served as a professor at North Carolina State University for 15 years. I earned a Master of
Science in 2025 in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Master of Arts in Interpersonal
Communication in 2004, and I hold a PhD in Interpersonal Communication (2008). My approach
draws on over 20 years of teaching, researching, and writing about relationships as an academic,
combined with training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Nurture, Play, Structure, Circle of
Security Parenting, and mindfulness-based approaches to wellbeing — a foundation that allows
me to help individuals and couples discover what they most need to feel safe and connected.
Beyond the training, I have decades of lived experience and take great pride in coming to
counseling as a second career.
COUNSELING APPROACH:
I believe therapy can hold warmth, seriousness, and a healthy dose of humor all at once. In session, I keep a steady ear toward not just what is being said, but how: the pause before a hard truth, the shift in the body, the thing that almost got said. All of these moments often bring clarity and alignment — helping you see yourself, or your partner, more clearly. I help clients slow down enough to notice their own patterns, make sense of their story, and move toward the connection and steadiness they desire. Because I believe that trust and attunement are built in the follow-through, not just the big moments.
INSURANCE & FEES:
I am an out-of-network clinician. I charge $135 per session for individuals and $175 per session for couples.
